Introduction

On July 20th 1999, a very special event occurred in a small corner of Avatar Cyberspace, the reenactment of the Apollo XI and IX lunar mission on their 30th Anniversaries.  Hundreds of people entered a multiuser virtual reality lunar aerospace museum on the south pole of the Moon in the year AD 3000.  Apollo IX Astronaut Russell (Rusty) Schweickart attended as Guest of Honor and everyone's guide for a reenactment at the proper date and time of the Apollo landing 30th anniversary.  The guests toured through landing sites and space rocketry, experiencing recreations of Rusty's EVA mission on Apollo 9, as well as his guided tour through a virtual reality reenactment of the Apollo11 Mission, humankind's first steps on the Moon.  These pages record a historic event where "outer space met cyber space".  You can also read the complete chat log of the event.

See the Apollo Reenactment Description pages and our Apollo IX with Rusty Schweickart and Apollo XI Rehearsal pages.  To visit MOON on the Internet, download and install The MOON Museum and teleport to the MOON.
